within the last two weeks on my block:
1) a developer tore down a historic Licoln-era barn--in a day or two--to make room for a four-story condo building. rumor has it that they are going to 'replicate the facade.' guess it really is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission ...
2) mr. abata, an ethiopian immigrant and well-known and respected member of our community, and who has operated a very affordable auto repair shop for the last 20 years, has finally lost his battle with the dc government and local developers. more than just a repair shop to me, mr. abata and his staff have always watched out for me and and my neighbors, and has become a friend. after tuesday my block will never be the same.
